Yandy Chirino
Yandy Chirino was one of the most welcoming, thoughtful, and joyful souls we have ever known. Born on March 14, 1993, in Havana, Cuba, Yandy migrated to Miami, Florida, with his parents as a young child, and at the age of ten, he proudly became a U.S. citizen. His love for life, family, and friends was evident in everything he did, from his travels to his dedication to his community.
A natural athlete, Yandy excelled in sports like volleyball, soccer, baseball, and basketball. He graduated from Coral Park High School in 2011 and earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University in 2015. Driven by a passion for helping others, Yandy pursued his dream of becoming a police officer, joining the Hollywood Police Department in 2017.
As an officer, Yandy exemplified professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to his duty. He served the community with immense pride, and his incredible work ethic did not go unnoticed. In his short but impactful career, Yandy received five commendations and was named Officer of the Month in June 2020. He was known for always going above and beyond, embodying the values of service and sacrifice.
Tragically, on October 17, 2021, at just 28 years old, Yandy made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the city of Hollywood. In an act of bravery, he gave his life while attempting to apprehend a criminal. His loss left a void not only within the Hollywood Police Department but in the hearts of all who knew him.
Yandy's memory lives on through his family—his mother, father, sister, niece, nephew, girlfriend—and his extended family in the Hollywood Police Department. Though his time was short, his legacy of kindness, courage, and dedication continues to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
This website stands as a tribute to Yandy’s life, both as an officer and as the warm, compassionate person who touched so many lives.
